The Yu-Gi-Oh! (遊戯王Yūgiō, lit. 'Game King') anime series, based on the original manga series by Kazuki Takahashi, consists of three television anime adaptations. The original 1998 anime series was produced by Toei Animation and was broadcast in Japan from April 4 to October 10, 1998, running for 27 episodes. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters was animated by Studio Gallop and ran for 224 episodes, premiering in Japan on April 18, 2000 and concluding on September 29, 2004. Finally, Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters was a twelve-episode, anime-exclusive miniseries commissioned by 4Kids Entertainment for broadcast in the United States, where it aired from September 9 to November 25, 2006.
The franchise has since has spawned five spin-off series (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal, Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, and Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS), as well as four animated films (The 1999 film, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light, Yu-Gi-Oh!: Bonds Beyond Time, and Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions).
